What your eyes are looking for
- Hairline
- Fine, light superficial line; normally does not catch a nail. Example: “A few light hairlines visible only under angled light.”
- Scuff
- Broad, cloudy rub mark from sleeve/storage contact; often cosmetic but can add noise. Example: “Light sleeve scuffs; no feelable scratches.”
- Scratch
- Distinct groove mark, especially if it catches a fingernail. Do not soften the word. Example: “Feelable scratch across A2; causes several light ticks.”
- Groove wear
- Dull, greyed, grainy groove area from repeated play/mistracking; usually audible as distortion or persistent noise.
- Warp
- Dish, edge, or wave deformation. State whether it affects play: “Mild edge warp; tracks normally.”
- Spindle marks
- Lines radiating from label hole; count heavy marks in your description.
- Non-fill / pressing flaw
- Manufacturing defect, often a zipper-like sound. Do not call it ordinary surface noise if you know it is pressing-related.
- Residue / contamination
- Fingerprints, sticker residue, dust, smoke film, or unknown spots. Clean safely; disclose what remains.
